Nancy Horner is a former school administrator who left her public education career early to pursue her dream of owning a travel business. She enjoys leading small group trips to Europe several times each year.
Chalante Travels (LLC) was established by Nancy on January 3, 2001 with a mission to create educational, affordable travel. Nancy has organized and led groups every year for the past 15 years, serving well over 700 clients of all ages. She works closely with the Portland Community College (PCC) Community Education Travel program providing educational group trips abroad.
The name Chalante Travels comes from the YMCA group Nancy belonged to during high school in the late 1960s. The 15 Chalantes set out on traveling adventures every summer in the back of a cattle truck. We waded ankle deep in water in Bryce Canyon National Park, slept under the stars in Yosemite, and visited San Francisco’s Haight Ashbury. We’ve never forgotten those great times and remained friends over all these years, still getting together every summer. As teenage girls, we invented the name “Chalante,” hoping it sounded French. To me it has come to mean fun, friends, and another crazy adventure.
Travel changes people’s lives. It broadens horizons, introduces new ideas and deepens relationships with people throughout the world. We never view the world quite the same after a trip abroad. Now, more than ever, it is important to understand both the similarities and the differences we have with citizens of other nations throughout our world.
Travel has enriched my life. I’ve made many friends throughout the world and even more here at home in Portland, Oregon. Each trip is always another new adventure. I hope we have a chance to share one soon.
